I absolutely love this movie. I watched it again a few nights ago, this maybe my 4th or 5th viewing, and once again I was captured from the very moment the film started. The opening / title sequence is so hauntingly beautiful setting up the film's premise with a brief voice over and lush visuals. The film explores ideas of reincarnation in a quiet, subtle and nuanced way. This movie is essentially a thriller tip-toeing as a metaphysical love story.
Jonathan Glazer has made a perfect film. The performances are amazing! Nicole Kidman is at her absolute best in this film. Her performance should have garnered an Oscar. Sean, played by Cameron Bright pulls off an incredible performance for a kid his age. All the supporting cast, Lauren Bacall, Danny Huston, Anne Heche and Peter Stormare deliver powerful performances. Alexandre Desplat's score combined with Harris Savides' cinematography creates a beautiful, brooding ambiance that washes over you. This movie is beautiful, engaging, a tour de force. Thank you Mr. Glazer for a spectacular film. If you haven't seen it, watch it and if you have seen it, watch it again, it's that kind of film that gets better and better with each viewing.
